Green Mountain Spinnery................

The entrance to spinnery and the store.

Here is the last day of my weekend in Vermont. Convinced hubby that I need to go to Putney to see the Green Mountain Spinnery. So off we go across Vermont, over the mountains and into Putney two hours later. It is a sweet little shop. Around 12x12 and filled with the most luscious yarn. All from American only sheep, thank you! The temperature that day was around 90 degrees outside and about 100 degrees in the shop. The gal I spoke with was friendly and interested in what I was working on. I was able to peek at the factory in process and saw some of the new Fall line. I bought some yummy sock yarn and some new natural color yarn just spun that day for about a dollar an ounce. That is about all that is on sale. The sock yarn was $18.00 for 50 grams and you need two skeins for a pair. Even so I enjoyed seeing the process and it was a piece of quintessential Vermont. Independent people making a living a natural way and having fun doing it. I think that if you are in the area it is a fun place to stop by and visit. But I wouldn't make a special trip there. You can order their yarn online http://www.spinnery.com/. The whole process took about thirty minutes and then we had lunch at the Putney Co-op. Yum! We then headed home and I started a pair of socks! What else? Enjoy the pics.

The factory and fleece and more fleece.

Oh my gosh, I would have died and gone to heaven. Just seeing the sheepy and the fleeces. How cool. I'll be interested to hear how the yarn knits up. Sometimes, it is really worth it to spend $18 for a skein, and other times, not. Give Oliver a hug. How's he doing? No pics lately. Just checking. Grover loves the pictures. He thinks sheep are big dogs.

That sounds like an interesting trip. Did you buy any of their gorgeous yarns? I have seen some of their yarns at Stitches one year and it is beautiful.
