KNITTING GAL

July 24, 2007

Hello again.....

Well, things are humming along and it is so great to have made new blog friends. I hope that I have everyone linked now to the right blog. A lot of you have more than one blog. Was I impressed! I can barely keep up with the one. Keep on bloggin'. So, if you see the wrong blog linked let me know and I will update you. I love them all. Everyone is so interesting and what diversity. We all have knitting in common but from there we all go in our own directions. It has really been a heart warming experience to have such a nice response and then to see how talented everyone is. So I am getting ready for the big night when I pull out the winner from a hat. Good Luck to you all and I will have another contest in the future.

The picture is of the Blarney Woolen Mills at Blarney Castle in Ireland. I bought the wool I am now knitting my reversible cable afghan with while I was visiting there. Some times I think the Little People get into those cables and twist them around they wrong way and drop those stitches on me. But I have made some good progress and hope that they stay away for awhile. This store is amazing and they have a wonderful online store too. They don't list the wool for sale but will mail it to you if you email them. I bought 18 50gram skeins of Aran wool for about $50.00 including shipping. It is so lovely to work with and best of all made from little fluffy Irish sheep! I have a very funny story about my experience with the Irish sheep in a previous blog but I couldn't find it so I will quickly repeat it. We were out with our travel guide doing the Ring of Kerry and we kept seeing sheep with different colors on their backs. I asked him what it was for. The guide said to me: "That is how they keep track of the sheep that have been mated". "Really!" says I, "what about the ones with more than one color on them?" The guide says to me: "They are the loose ones, no better than they should be!"
Dumb American Tourist! Hmm!

My puppy pal Oliver wants to say a big hello to everyone and a special hello to his blog puppy pal Tucker! Isn't he too sweet! What a big ball of fluff and fun he is. He is attached to my husband and goes everywhere he can with him. See you all next time. Keep Knittin' Kittens.

OMG, when I opened your post I was all excited - I've been to Blarney Woolen Mills! Isn't Ireland fantastic!

I had to ask the sheep color question, too. When we flew into Shannon, you could see the sheep with the colors in this field as you fly in... was amazing.

I'm glad you had some good hits on your blog!

I've been there too! I wasn't a knitter then, so I really need to see it again.

Hi Donna,

Amazing place that Blarney Woolen Mills isn't it! I visited it during my year abroad in Ireland when I was a college student. Didn't have the money to buy yarn then though... I did get a sweater.

I've nomiated you for 'Rockin' Girl Blogger' on my blog. Your blog truly rocks!

Ireland is on my must-do list, definitely!
I only know about those "markers" because I was an animal science undergrad. We actually had to change the markers and altered the colors per Buck to also know approx. when the doe was bred. It's a pretty simple idea, but really helpful in that sort of thing. ;) Whenever I drive by a farm with marked sheep/goats I laugh too!

Isn't Mr. Darcy just dashing! I do think that the PBS version of Pride and Prejudice is still my favorite. Colin Firth is perfect. Love your photos and blog!

That is a great story about the Irish sheep - that was one of the questions asked the first time we saw them on our tour of Ireland too - but our guide didnt come up with that great of an answer!
